Safety cleaning in exposed areas of energy and industrial plants

In the past, unfortunately, there have already been several fatal accidents and serious injuries due to falling fouling, caking or product residues during inspections and subsequent cleaning or repair work.

Even though the safeguards have been steadily optimised, there may still be a residual risk here.

Also the safety cleaning by industrial climbers is dangerous, as the recent tragic accidents shows; It is all the more necessary that a thorough and proactive safety cleaning is essential.

In order to ensure a safe working environment for working people working in different trades, Online Cleaning Technologies sets new standards in safety cleaning by means of targeted explosive cleaning:

  • Work safety
  • Effectiveness and
  • Economics
  • Already during the revision planning we create together with the customer an individual security concept, which is adjusted to the specific requirements of the plant and the operator.

For an effective safety cleaning e.g at thermal incinerators we can offer the operator two different variants:

1. Safety clean integrated in the shutdown process

While the plant is running, our experts arrive and prepare everything for the safety clean. After the “go” by the responsible operator, our trained employees open the manholes and use small, targeted explosive charges to blow up the caking or residue at the dangerous or exposed areas without having to enter the facility.

The benefits of this procedure are manifold:

Increased safety

No employee enters the dangerous or exposed areas.

Time advantage

The time during the shutdown is used effectively, no delay of the planned revision dates.

Cleaning

As fouling and combustion residues change in homogeneity as temperatures decrease, we use this condition or time window to remove the residue as long as it is at that temperature and therefore “easier” to remove.

Time savings

The product or combustion residues, which have been cleaned over a large area during safety cleaning, do not need to be manually cleaned.

Economics

Residues that have been cleared during blast cleaning can be removed by the on-site disposal or ash removal routes. Cost-intensive extraction of residues from traditional cleaning by means of mobile air conveyor systems (vacuum trucks) is reduced to a minimum.

2. Safety cleaning during standstill

If a safety cleaning is not possible in the shutdown process due to the design or production reasons, the safety explosion cleaning can also be carried out offline. Our team will arrive then on the agreeded date and start with the explosive cleaning immediately after.

Advantages of this procedure:

Increased safety

No employee enters the dangerous or exposed areas.

Time savings

The product or combustion residues, which were removed over a large area during the safety cleaning, do not need to be cleaned costly by hand.

Economics

Residues that have been cleared during explosive cleaning can be removed by the on-site disposal or ash removal routes.

Cost-intensive extraction of residues from traditional cleaning by means of mobile air conveyor systems (vacuum trucks) is reduced to a minimum.
